I found a cause that I deeply connected with and will change my life forever.
I look forward to continuing growth and development in giving with this group of wonderful human beings.
I was a bit hesitant to join Collective Heart initially. Not because I didn’t think it was a good thing, I just wasn’t sure if it was for me. I was happy to donate money, but I had never volunteered my time. Partly because I didn’t know which charities or causes to get involved with but mainly because I didn’t feel the urge to get involved. But I wanted to change this - I knew that if I could get involved then I would become a better person/father and lead a richer life. So I would turn up to the monthly breakfasts, hear inspiring stories and seek opportunities to get involved. Some were for me and some weren’t. It took time, but eventually I found a cause that I deeply connected with and will change my life forever. It was only a small contribution of my time and money but what I received in return can’t be measured. It’s a feeling that’s hard to describe but one that wouldn’t have been possible had it not been for Collective Heart.
Collective Heart’s monthly meetings provide an opportunity to connect with open-hearted people who are oriented to giving. Over the past two years I have witnessed my own awareness grow of how I may contribute by being part of this group. There is a myriad of ways and means to contribute and connection to Collective Heart has opened the way for my contribution means. For example I was able to visit a Community in the Philippines in April, which has deeply enriched my life and being. I look forward to continuing growth and development in giving with this group of wonderful human beings.
Knowing you want to help those in need or those who are in terrible circumstances is a disturbing place when you’re struggling with how to help, Collective Heart members share together the many ways people are doing incredible things from very humble beginnings, I have found here a group of people who know what it is to see love as the greatest gift and love the greatest motivator in making a difference, this is one amazing group of people who seem ordinary but have found how to love extraordinarily.
Many of us have dipped our toe into charitable endeavours during our life but all it really does is stroke our own ego. The trick is to keep doing it regularly, no matter how big or small the effort is. By being a member of Collective Heart, I have found a community of like-minded individuals from all walks of life who share the notion of doing something and doing it regularly. As the American cultural anthropologist, Margaret Mead once said “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” To me, this defines Collective Heart. Changing the world a little at a time.
The vision of “Be Love See Love” is coming to life for a group of like minded people who may, like me, need a little push! It’s been amazing to be a part of this big hearted bunch who want to bring their hearts to the world and provide others with the opportunity to do the same in lots of different and personal ways. What started as a leap of faith is rewarding us through sharing a wonderful journey together! I’m excited to see where Collective Heart takes us to next!
Collective Heart is a group of Newcastle’s friendliest and most compassionate movers and shakers. When I first attended the monthly meeting, I assumed it would have some ‘business networking’ incorporated in the meeting. I was surprised and very moved by what was spoken about, as there was a complete focus on helping not only our direct community, but also helping others in need globally with no business networking whatsoever. Collective Heart has pulled me out of comfort zone physcially and emotionally - I never thought I would sign up for a 100k walk to be completed in 48 hours, or travel abroad to teach a community of women my trade. My experience has made me realise I can create true happiness and love by simply helping others in true need to be happy and be loved. I could write many many more positive things that I have experienced due to this wonderful, one of a kind group, but I suggest you come along and see for yourself. Every month I come away feeling like I have learnt more about what compassion really means, and been very moved by other peoples stories that we have heard. The possibilities are endless with this amazing group of people. I truly look forward to coming to our meetings and feel special to be a part of it.
